DignityHeroes: Dignity Yahoo! Group

Groups:

This week, we honor a perhaps little known group associated with Dignity: the folks having conversations over at the Dignity Yahoo! Group. Though conversations have ebbed and flowed through the years of its online existence, there's been a tremendous staying power. Of course, those sitting at this particular table come and go too, yet an uncanny fidelity reigns.

I'm new to DignityUSA as its program manager, so I've only recently come to observe, but I'm struck by the respect that operates at this online table. The openness to listen to others' opinions is palpable. For instance, this past week someone put out a request to support efforts over at the Girl Scouts to welcome the participation of transgender persons. Following that request, there was genuine interest shown by a Yahoo! member to understand more deeply the 'birth' of a transgender identity, and another Yahoo! member, a transgender person herself, offered a beautiful response from her own experience.

More and more, Dignity engagement includes folks who aren't geographically connected to a local Dignity chapter. The engagement at Dignity's table is inclusive of regional chapters, non-geographically bound caucuses, and on-line communities like the Dignity Yahoo! Group and the infant "Dignity VOICES".

It's a big table and getting bigger, and it is awesome to find that the conversations shared at our table include a big dose of mutual respect, honesty,  and a desire to listen and understand.

Kudos to those at the table of Dignity Yahoo!
